Top 5 Albums – July 2015

Hello Stranger,

This week I am going to be talking about my top 5 albums of July.

These albums will be a combination of new and old albums. This month is a very VERY wide variety of musical genres. So kick back, relax and put on your glasses that you never wear because it’s the end of the month:

The Heist - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis5) Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – The Heist

I love this album. It’s inspiring. It’s thought provoking and talks about the things that matter in a modern way. The way this album has a really really clear message about equality, racism and fame. It’s so creative and powerful to listen to with a rap and pop vibe to it. but this is not the case for all the songs. Some of them are really slow and powerful like Same Love. But others like Can’t Hold Us and Thrift Shop lost their message to some people because they were the singles that where played the most on the radio etc. This sort of made me upset that some people in this world don’t look deeper into each song they love and pay attention to the lyrics and what they mean. As I love Thrift Shop’s message as it tells you that clothes are becoming increasingly more expensive and that people will happily pay that money for one item of clothing. Whereas, if you went to a thrift shop (charity shop) you could get 10+ items for that amount of money. Crazy world, right? My favourite songs from this album is Wing$. I love this song because it shows what has happened to the world commercially. Knower days if you went and bought a pair of branded shoes you would just buy it for the brand rather than the shoe. But you used to just buy shoes because they were comfy or cheap. Now if you bought shoes that are not branded by something you have the risk of being bullied. This goes for all types of clothing not just shoes. This song talks about this and how it has affected our generation. It has damaged our generation. And that is wrong.

Altadore - Golden Hills4) Altadore – Golden Hills

After downloading Wandering Ghost by this band I thought I might as well get their other album as well. Golden Hills. Oh how it does not disappoint. I have fallen for this band. The sound and theme of their music is amazing and moving in some ways as well. It has a sort of light heartedness to it yet with a deeper and more meaningful side theme to it as well. The lyrics, as well, are really moving and expressive if you look deep enough in to them. Each song I would seem has its own path too it and yet they all seem to link into each other in the end. My favourite song on this album would have to be Moments. I love the slow build up and starting to this song that makes it seem like a completely different song than it actually is. You start to think that there is something else to this song when there is a short break in-between the lyric where a guitar picks up. Then it goes back to how the song was. I love this deception because when the song actually picks up a bit to the main chorus it is worth the wait. This song makes everything seem better than it actually is. It’s sort of a confidence booster. It shows you that not everything is as it seems and there are many surprises on this earth. You just have to wait for them.

Nothing But Thieves - Graveyard Whistling EP3) Nothing But Thieves – Graveyard Whistling EP

I recently did a review on this album last week after finding it in the depths of my iTunes library after it came on shuffle during my walk around town. I had forgotten how amazing and poetic this album is and what a story it tells. This album focuses on life and how it works. How everyone at some stage of their live goes through the same thing that you are going through right now. Loss. Love. Death. Hope. Fear. We are all human and we all feel these feelings. I can’t wait for their new album, which has some of these songs on it, to come out. I have high hope for it. My favourite song on this album is… Itch. I love the guitar in this song and the way it all transitions from slow to fast and back down to slow. I also love the message behind this song and the way it’s relatable as well. How it is about having lost what it means to be human and trying to find it again. I really love that and how its all comes together in this song.

Circa Waves - Young Chasers2) Cicra Waves – Young Chasers

Now this album I would say in my album of the summer. No doubt about it. It’s such a happy go lucky album. It’s so get up and go outside and get sun burn type of album. The sort that makes you feel summery just listening to it. I have done a review of this album recently because of this. It’s that album you would put on with your friends because it has a bit of every genre in it. It would satisfy everyone’s music needs in my friendship group, I would say. It’s a go to album if you were stuck on music choices for the day. So after much deliberation my favourite track on this album is, MY Love. I know this was not one of the songs that I said I loved in my review of this album but since then I have learned. This song is a summary of what the band is about and what they stand far and what their music theme is. It’s a beautiful song with a great guitar in it and amazing lyrics. For me this band is going to go far. Especially with these types of songs and this vibe they have going on with this album. Also the title represents this album so well. It is a title and a summary at the same time.

The Best Of Chopin1) Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin – Chopin’s Greatest Hits

Now the almighty place of 1st on my top 5 of this month goes to Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin and his amazing greatest hits album. This was released a long time after his death in 1849 so thank you to the people who put this album together. I was lent this album by a friend of mine on vinyl after I expressed by interest in classical music on Twitter. I asked for any musical suggestions in the classical genre and my friend said that I could borrow this album. Oh how I have played this album. I think this album and some David Bowie and T-Rex have been the only vinyl’s I have really played this month. I have honestly fallen in love with Chopin’s work. The way it’s so soothing and relaxing. It just makes everything seem special and almost magical. My favourite song on this album has to be Nocturne In E Flat Major, Op.9 No.2. This is because it’s that sort of song that goes with anything. Whether you want to read, get ready to go out or even dance around your room at an ungodly hour. It’s the perfect song to do all those things to and more. I love its simplicity and calming ways in how’s its played and I want to thank my friend for lending me this album. You have opened my eyes to a new world.
